"The practice of Qigong is an invitation to live into an honoring of the seasons of a year, the seasons of a day, the seasons of a project, the seasons of a relationship, the seasons of a life."       -Dr. Roger Jahnke

5th Season Adjustments

Dear Friends:  We are moving into what the Chinese call the “5th Season” or the time between Summer and Fall...when the late summer light begins to shift and the edges of the day soften. During this time of year when one cycle nears its end and another waits to begin, we see an invitation to be fully present.  We are supported in finding clarity, overcoming anxiety and worry to be replaced with peace of mind.

As the corn tassels turn brown and we transition into the seasonal colors of autumn, our bodies and minds require a mindful reset to feel balanced, energized and at ease.

Consider the following to assist you during this time:

  1. Practice Qigong and Breath Techniques daily to tonify the lungs and immune system (example below).

  2. Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables, transitioning from raw salads to cooked or roasted vegetables.

  3. Transition to warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, Cayenne pepper, cardamon and cloves.

  4. Adjust your sleeping patterns with the rhythms of the natural light.

  5. Slow down to reflect upon what joys and blessings are waiting for you to say, "Yes!".

Fall calls us to gather, learn, and nurture ourselves in meaningful ways.  It is fertile ground for reflection and realignment. I hope you will consider joining me on October 13th for an in-person Autumn Qigong Workshop: Releasing, Accepting and Allowing (details below).

Please also consider joining me for a special online Qigong practice and meditation on Labor Day, Monday, September 1 at 9:00 am (details and link below).

After Monday I’ll be on the road for a time – classes resume on September 22nd.

May you find peace and ease in your days,

Sandy Salvo

Jessica Kolbe shares:  "The Element for this season is Earth.  Earth is the element of harvest time and brings with it abundance, nourishment and fertility  This element is also regarded as central to seeking and finding balance in our lives. We are supported in establishing our center. Earth is the symbol of stability and being properly anchored.  We naturally become more grounded and feel connected to our planet and to each other."

All ability levels welcome. Can be performed standing or seated in casual attire. Please come prepared to do a short portion of the workshop outdoors, weather permitting.
